The contract was awarded by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and the Government of Ontario. Deutsche Ban will be responsible for planning, designing, building, and operating a new light rail line in the city. The line will connect the city center to the Pearson International Airport.

The contract is a major win for Deutsche Ban, which has been looking to expand its operations in North America. The company currently operates rail services in several cities in the United States, including New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The Toronto contract is the company's first major contract in Canada.

The new light rail line is expected to open in 2031. It will be the first new light rail line in Toronto since the opening of the Sheppard line in 2002.
