Chelsea vs Real Madrid: Blues beat 10-man Real Madrid 2-0 in Champions League quarter-final first leg

Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Real Madrid in the 21st minute, but Chelsea hit back with goals from Mason Mount and Antonio Rudiger to take a 2-1 lead into the second leg.

Chelsea were the better side for much of the match and deserved their victory, while Real Madrid were poor and will need to improve significantly if they are to turn the tie around in the second leg.

Chelsea made a bright start to the match and took the lead in the 21st minute when Mason Mount fired home from close range after a pass from Timo Werner. Real Madrid equalised in the 27th minute when Karim Benzema headed in a cross from Vinicius Junior, but Chelsea regained the lead in the 51st minute when Antonio Rudiger headed in a corner from Mount.

Chelsea continued to press for more goals and Timo Werner made it 3-1 in the 75th minute with a fine finish from the edge of the area. Real Madrid were reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute when Eder Militao was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Chelsea held on to secure a deserved victory.

The result leaves Chelsea in a strong position ahead of the second leg, which will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday, April 12.
