Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Numerous KZN Towns

Residents urged to take precautions as heavy rainfall and strong winds expected

South African Weather Service issues severe thunderstorm warning for several towns in KwaZulu-Natal

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for numerous towns in KwaZulu-Natal, including Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Richards Bay.

The warning is valid from 2pm to 8pm on Tuesday, 14 February 2023.

The SAWS has warned that heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hail are expected.

Residents are urged to take the following precautions:

• Stay indoors if possible.
• If you must go outside, avoid low-lying areas and stay away from rivers and streams.
• Be aware of the risk of lightning and avoid open areas.
• Secure loose objects outside your home.
• If you are driving, be aware of the risk of aquaplaning and reduce your speed.
• Stay informed about the latest weather updates.
